Boy, I love enameling!

Here's a quick peek at the progression in my enameling; 4 new techniques,

This one is layered and has motion. Had to figure out how to keep the enameled pieces from rubbing against each other.

This one used a rubber stamp to apply the enamel for the stars.

This is sgraffito; after enameling a base, sift another layer and then scratch in a pattern.

This one uses piercing and stenciling.

I'm certainly having a good time experimenting with what you can and can't do with enamels.

Pretties for Pennies

If you follow me on Facebook you've probably seen pictures posted of "the really big project"' which is my enamel testing project. I have been using pennies (yes, it's legal. I checked everything out first.) to test fire all of the enamel colors to see how they react with the copper and the torch flame. The pennies all have to be from 1981 or earlier (1982 pennies have very little actual copper in them!), and I've needed approximately 170 of them. Let me tell you, it's surprisingly hard to come by those old pennies! So, what i did was offer all my coworkers and friends "pretties for pennies". If they donated pennies to my project I made them a necklace in return; whatever their favorite color enameled on a copper washer and finished with a simple cord. Like this...

Not too bad for $.5 or $.10, right?

I'm still on the lookout for those pennies. I will have my project finished in about $.50. :-)

Quickies and a Kitten

This blog post is just a quickie, but 2 nice things have happened for Juli's Jewels in the last 2 days.

First, I've been invited to sell my jewelry at LUNAFEST. It's a film festival of short films "By, About, and For Women". It's on Saturday, May 18th (Yes, the day after tomorrow!) and starts at 3:oo pm at Sierra 2 Theater, 2791 24th Street in Sacramento. Click on the link and check it out!

Pinterest, I've been there. I've checked it out. It could be a major time suck in my like if I'd let it, so I kind of make a point of not going there too often. So, lo and behold, I was on there and I put in julisjewels just to see what came up and I found I'd been pinned...a few times at that.
